November 2021

This month's meeting was extraordinary. It marked Seven Slot Society’s 7th Anniversary. Seven beautiful years of Jeeps, wheeling, helping our community, and friendships. We want to thank Mr. Gatti's Pizza in Lake Charles for letting us hold the meeting there. Fun Fact: Our very first meeting took place at Mr. Gatti’s Pizza! To schedule your event at Mr. Gatti’s visit https://mrgattispizza.com/homepage/locations/gattis-pizza-lake-charles/

At our meeting, we donated canned goods and turkeys/hams for Brennan's Blessings. Brennan's Blessings is a non-profit created in honor of Brennan Wade Daigle. Brennan earned his angel wings in 2011 after a courageous battle with rhabdomyosarcoma.

The club donated 54 turkeys/hams and about 650 canned goods to help families in need this Thanksgiving.

For more information on Brennan's Blessings or for information on how you can contribute, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/groups/508824485851223/

May Meeting 2021

A big thanks go to Game2Life Tactical for hosting our May Meeting. We always have a lot of fun! Check them out at http://www.game2life.net/The-Game

Go topless weekend was May 14-16.

Dues have been reinstated. Were due by May 1st. Please pay ASAP. Christina is trying to get everyone up to date.

Rob Reed and several others suggested purchasing a Ready Welder system for club usage on trail rides. It would have cost over $600. Then we find out it is out of stock, indefinitely. Ready Welder suggested we look at the GoWeld system that ended up being over $2000. Board Member Chris Pickett found one locally for $400 previously owned but never used. Plus, it is well under the original budget, and we can use that money to get supplies, gloves, helmets, etc. This system will be available to all members to check out, and the party signing it out will be responsible for its upkeep or replacement cost. For more details, contact Jared Chandler.

We have a group of members that went off-roading in Hot Springs, Arkansas, this week.

Upcoming Events

June Meeting - 19th at 5:30 @ BeauxDines 3013 Ryan Street, Lake Charles, LA

For more announcements, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/GTWHollyBeach/

We recently had an event at Niche where everyone painted a Jeep grills door hangers. Everyone had a great time and all of the grills looked great.

Just a reminder, this club is what you make it. If you want to have a fun run or another event make an event on the page. If you need help get with any of the board members and we will be happy to help.

Update: I tried to purchase the Ready Welding system and they are on back order for 2 years. This is due to Covid and material shortages. We are looking into alternatives.

July 31, 2016 Member Meeting and Club Dues

July 31, 2016 Member Meeting and Club Dues

Beginning in May 2016, Seven Slot Society of SWLA, Inc. became a paid membership organization.  Up until this point in the club's history, regular operation of the club and overhead for fundraising events came from the pockets of gracious founding members.  In a little more than a year, the membership of Seven Slot Society of SWLA, Inc. grew exponentially.  It was extremely exciting to see such growth; however, the cost of operation was no longer affordable by individuals.  At that time, the Board of Directors made the recommendation to implement collecting dues with the amount voted on by current members.  It was decided that $50/year would be a reasonable annual membership fee.  After enforcing club dues in June, we were thrilled to see such a show of support from our members.  Not only did the club maintain the majority of it's initial membership, it continues to grow every month.

The mission of Seven Slot Society of SWLA, Inc.  includes giving back to the local community.  Having a budget to defray operating cost and overhead for fundraisers has opened up so many opportunities for the club to sponsor and give back to local charity.  July was our first meeting for official, paid membership.  We had a great time catching up with each other and meeting our new members. Looking at the club calendar, there seems to be events around every corner.  Check out upcoming events and photos from past events on our public Facebook page.  Here are just a few events to look for:

August 13th  "United We Ride" Hosted by Louisiana Jeepers (Breaux Bridge, La)

August 21st - Next Seven Slot Society of SWLA, Inc. Member Meeting

August 27th - "Jeep Jaunt Jam"  A chance to register for the annual Jeep Jaunt in October (Opelousas, La)

August 27th - "Sticker Party" supporting Lone Survivor Foundation (Austin's Chop Shop in Vidor, Tx)

September 24th - "Run with the Nuns" ride and cook-off supporting research and providing state of the art heart care in SWLA (Lake Charles, La)

October 30th- "Annual Jeep Jaunt" limited

If you are interested in joining Seven Slot Society of SWLA, Inc. Please check out the "Join Us" tab at the top of the page.  Review the club documents and then submit your electronic application.

March 20, 2016 Meeting

There was a tremendous turnout for our March club meeting, as we welcomed visitors from Louisiana Jeepers, who joined us to donate items for flood victims in Southwest Louisiana.  Our own members also made a big impact on local charity by donating Easter baskets for Brennan's Blessings, an organization in support of families battling cancer.  To top off the giving at this month's get together, Southern Tire Mart donated a set of 35" tires that were raffled off in support of our local chapter of Ainsley's Angels. Everything about this meeting demonstrated just how big our  jeeper's hearts are. Here are just a few upcoming events for Seven Slot Society of SWLA, be sure to check out our Facebook page for more details:

  • April 3rd Carmen Guillot Benefit
  • April 16th ReALLIEty Challenge

Secretary and Treasurer Position Selection

Hey guys, sorry its late but I'm finally getting to sit down and type this out.
I sat down with our lawyer the other day and it has been a bit of a process but it looks like we will be acquiring Non-Profit status! This is very exciting. Once again, thank you for your patience everyone. We're getting these details ironed out.

That being said, the lawyer made some suggestions to change a few key things. We had originally planned to determine the positions of Secretary and Treasurer by a popular vote, but due to the complexities of managing a Non-Profit we've been advised to select individuals most qualified to the positions to ensure this is properly managed. Someone with appropriate background for these positions is preferable. (i.e. accounting experience for Treasurer)
As discussed before, those wishing to apply need to turn in your qualifications to us by February 27th (the next meeting). You can send them to us by email at sevenslotsocietyofswla@gmail.com
We will then hold interviews for all those that apply at a time that is convenient for everyone.
I hope you all understand the reason for this decision and feel fee to message me with any questions.

Thanks

-Chandler

T Rex Trail Treck Ride!

When the society gets together, it's not just a bunch of jeep enthusiasts standing around to talk about jeeps (although, that does happen a LOT). It's almost like a reunion each time we get together. With over 100 members and counting, we don't get to see each other all of the time for each event. Some are working, some are with their family, and some are at other events. So when we do have the chance to come together, it's more than just an "event", its truly a family reunion.

We have been seeing it happen more and more, new members show up to a ride or gathering, and they're quiet and shy. Who wouldn't be? You're walking into a group that has known each other forever, right? Nope, you'd be wrong. Suddenly, a member walks up to you and says "Hi and Welcome". Introductions start, no way you're going to remember all of these names, but you're trying to! Next thing you realize is that everyone is greeting you and talking to you (and staring at your jeep, of course) wanting to hear the story about how you came across it, what do you plan on doing to it, what do you have done to it. For some, the story is "it's still got a paper plate on the back, I just bought it". We don't care, you have a jeep, that's what's important. Just like in a family, there is no judgement, no snickering because you don't have a lift, no poking fun because you don't know what the other shift lever is for. Instead, all of these people want to help you and show you what your new set of wheels can do! They want to extend what the Society was built upon, FAMILY!

With a huge surge of members lately, we know it can be stressful wondering if you'll "fit in" or perhaps you're thinking about joining but wondering the same thing. Rest assured, you are family and you'll be accepted with open arms. There is never a dumb question that will go un-answered. We hope if you have been on the fence about joining, you'll take the plunge and join us this Saturday (September 26) 5pm at Hurricane Off-Road in Lake Charles. You do not have to be a member to come to the meetings. Come see what the Society is all about and maybe find that your family will grow just a bit by the end of the day.
